Cypremort Point - Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia for Ellis J. Schouest Jr., 85, who passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2018.
Interment will follow in St. Helen Cemetery near Louisa.
Deacon Larry Boudreaux will officiate.
A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia.
A native of Houma and a resident of Cypremort Point, Mr. Schouest was born on July 19, 1932 to the late Ellis and Leona Engeron Schouest. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korea War, and was a commercial shrimper. Mr. Schouest enjoyed dancing, playing cards, eating oysters, gardening, music, carpentry work, and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Flavia Eskine Schouest of Cypremort Point; sons, Ellis "Butch" J. Schouest, III and wife Dawn of Cypremort Point, Juston "Rowdy" P. Schouest and girlfriend Deborah of Cypremort Point; daughters, Barbara Olander and husband Russell of Cypremort Point, Pam Trahan of Cypremort Point, Justine "Tina" Viator and husband Steve of Cypremort Point, Wendy York and husband Garell of Cypremort Point; sisters, Theresa Trosclair of Cypremort Point, Leona Rebert of Coteau Holmes; sisters-in-law, Theresa Schouest of Avery Island, Elizabeth Schouest of Lafayette; 14 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Allen "T-Neg" Trahan, Jr.; brothers, Joe Schouest, Eugene Schouest, Timothy Schouest, Sr., Michael Schouest; granddaughter, Heidi Schouest; brothers-in-law, Steve Rebert, Sr., Melvin Trosclair, Sr.; sisters-in-law, Juanita Schouest, Lana Schouest, and Josephine Schouest.
Pallbearers will be Steve Viator, Wayne York, Ellis Schouest IV, Dustin Schouest, Wesley Migues, and Jason Pellegrin.
