St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm, on Monday, January 21, 2013, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Elma Hebert Resweber, 89, who passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Maison de Lafayette.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 3:30 pm until 9:00 pm on Sunday and continue at 9:00 am until 12:30 pm on Monday. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Sunday.
Rev. Rusty P. Richard will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Shelley Carnahan and Stacey Britton. Gift Bearers will be Hannah Carnahan, Aidan Carnahan, Owen Britton, and Hailey Britton.
Inurnment will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum in St. Martinville at a later date.
Mrs. Resweber graduated from Mt. Carmel Academy in New Iberia in 1941, and from U.S.L., where she obtained her Bachelor's Degree in 1945, and her Master's Degree in 1960. She taught school at St. Martinville High School from 1946 - 1973 and at Our Lady of Mercy High School from 1973 - 1986.
She was a past recipient of the Peter Fell Award as an outstanding teacher of American History in Louisiana, given by Louisiana Society, Daughters of the American Revolution. Elma worked on numerous community and civic organizations for betterment of St. Martinville.
She was a longtime parishioner of St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church, where she was a member of the church choir, Parish Council, St. Martha's Guild, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and a devoted adorer in the Chapel of Perpetual Adoration.
She was also a member of Kappa Kappa Iota, St. Martin Parish Retired Teachers, Louisiana Retired Teachers Association, National Association of Social Studies Teachers, National Catholic Education Association, National Geographic Society, National Retired Teachers Association, and U.S.L. Alumni Association.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheryl Ann Resweber Faulk and husband, Gerald, of Lafayette; two granddaughters, Shelley Faulk Carnahan and husband, Timothy, of Prairieville, and Stacey Faulk Britton and husband, Robert, of Youngsville; and four great grandchildren, Hannah Carnahan, Aidan Carnahan, Owen Britton,and Hailey Britton.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Patrick Henry Resweber; her parents, Peter Janvier Hebert and Constance Cecile Vega Hebert; and three brothers, Irvin 'Beno' Hebert and wife, Inez, Ferdinand 'Ferdie' Hebert and wife, Margie, and J. Claude Hebert and wife, Gertrude.
Pallbearers will be Robert Britton, Timothy Carnahan, Timothy Hebert, Michael Resweber, Richard Resweber, and George Resweber.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Juan Perez-Ruiz, Dr. Stephen Simpson, and the staffs at Lafayette General, Rosewood Assisted Living, Maison de Lafayette, and Hospice Compassus.
