New Iberia – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church, for Elmae Belaire Picard, 91, who passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025.
Interment will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery.
Rev. Ed Degeyter will be the Celebrant.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, at Pellerin Funeral Home, and will continue Thursday, from 8:00 am until 9:15 am. A rosary, led by the Men’s Rosary Group, will be prayed at 6:00 pm on Wednesday.
A resident of New Iberia, Elmae Belaire Picard was born in Parks, Louisiana, on December 1, 1933, to the late Placide and Emma Landry Belaire. Upon graduation from high school, she worked at A&P and Cleco. After her children were born, she became a professional homemaker, and babysat for many years. Mrs. Picard also donated thousands of hours over the last 40 years to helping at North Lewis and Daspit Elementary Schools, including Mrs. Pat Broussard, Catherine Broussard, Peggy Vice, Sue Lopez, and many others. She loved visiting with family and friends, doing yard work, and cooking for her family. She will be deeply missed.
Mrs. Picard is survived by her two sons, Robert John Picard and wife, Cynthia V. Picard of New Iberia, and Tedman James Picard and wife, Renea Holmes Picard, of Youngsville; sister, Iva Mae Belaire Theriot; granddaughter, Nina Picard and boyfriend, Jeremy Verret; great granddaughter, Sadie Verret; sister-in-law, Enella Broussard; step grandchildren, Kayla Lemke, Layla Frederick and husband Derick, Brittny Simon and husband Jonathan, and Tommy Ransonet, III; seven great grandchildren, Addisyn Hess, Gracie Romero, Emery Frederick, Stella Simon, Bennet Frederick, Camile Simon, and Mia Simon; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Purvis Picard; sisters, Earline B. Degeyter, Oline B. Guidry, Sadia B. Guilbeau; brothers, Clevens Belaire, Loiston Belaire, and Earlis Belaire; in laws, Beo Picard and Lillian Lopez Picard Romero; sisters-in-law, Earline Pepper Louviere, Louise Domingues, and Evelyn Gary; and brother-in-law, Rennis Picard.
Pallbearers will be Kurk Guilbeau, Jay Guilbeau, Glen Belaire, Scott Belaire, Norman Guidry, and Norris Guidry.
Honorary pallbearers include Jeremy Verret, Tommy Ransonet, III, and Brenda Vidrine.
The family would like to give special thanks to Desire' Williams, Maxine Randall, Hospice of Acadiana, and Margo LeBlanc, for their care and compassion.
