Elta Bourque Viator

New Iberia – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday, December 18, 2023, at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church in New Iberia, for Elta Bourque Viator, 89, who passed away peacefully at Landmark of Acadiana in Cade, LA on Thursday, December 14, 2023.

Interment will follow in Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery, in Delcambre.

Msgr. J. Robert Romero will be the Celebrant.

Readers will be Mary Landry Clay and Erin Hoffpauir Jones. Gift bearers include Melanie Bourliea Molbert, and Reese Molbert.

Visitaion will be Sunday, December 17, 2023, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia, and will continue Monday, 8:00 am until 9:15 am.

A Rosary, led by the Men’s Rosary Group, will be prayed at 6:30 pm on Sunday.

Elta was a loving housewife for most of her life, married to the love of her life, Speck unitl his passing in 2014. Elta had no biological children, but Tante, as she was affectionately known by most of us, was a second “mother” to many. Her kind and generous spirit, and wonderful sense of humor, were not dampened by the stroke she suffered in 2012 which confined her to a wheelchair for the remainder of her life. Despite this setback, she continued to participate in family activites, thanks to the tireless efforts of her niece, Mandy Landry, and her husband Keith.

Elta’s love of life, God, family, and her courage, were always apparent. She was a wonderful example to all who knew her.

She is survived by Emma Morvant of New Iberia (sister-in-law), Betty Herndon of Utah (sister-in-law), Herman “Boonie” Viator (brother-in-law) and his wife Bonnie of Delcambre, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Elta was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Nella L. Bourque, her husband, Leonce (Speck) Viator, her sister Lou Ella B. Dore, and her brother, Harris Bourque

Pallbearers will be Charlie Viator, Eric Viator, Matt Romero, Max Romero, Joe Landry, and Ryan Hoffpauir.

Special thanks to the staff at Consolata Nursing Home, and Landmark of Acadiana, for their compassionate care through the years. Thanks also to Traditions Health Hospice who cared for her during her final months.
