Elta Thibodeaux Poirier

St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Elta Thibodeaux Poirier, 83, who passed away on Monday, March 3, 2008 at her residence. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, in St. Martinville. Fr. Austin Leger, pastor of St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church, will officiate at the funeral Mass. Mrs. Poirier was known for having enjoyable and fun times at the casino and also while playing cards. She loved spending time with her family and her friends in the Rosary Group. Elta will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Survivors include her husband, Willis Poirier, of St. Martinville; four sons, Bran "Pete" Poirier and his wife, Bertina, LeRoy Poirier and his wife, Judy, all of Cypress Island, Giland Poirier and his companion, Gayle Trahan, of St. Martinville, and Ronald Poirier and his wife, Margaret, of Cypress Island; one daughter, Brenda Poirier and her companion, Carrol Bergeron, of Breaux Bridge; one sister, Marie Louise T. Grossie and her husband, Maxie, of Lafayette; 17 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Rita Babineaux Thibodeaux; three brothers, Sidney, Clarence, and Simon Thibodeaux; and five sisters, Bertha Thibodeaux, Anne T. Bergeron, Anita T. Hollier, Edith T. Romero, and Thelma T. Lormand. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:30 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday and continue at 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Poirier, Bryan Poirier, Barry Poirier, T-Roy Poirier, Keith Poirier, and Darren Poirier. Honorary pallbearers will be Shawn Poirier, Corey Poirier, Josh Poirier, Shane Poirier, Kyle Poirier, and Branan Poirier. Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville is in charge of arrangements.
