New Iberia A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, on Saturday, September 27, 2014, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia, for Elza Mae Moma Mae Broussard Derouen, 79, who passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2014.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5:00 pm until 8:30 pm on Friday, and continue on Saturday, at 8:00 am until 10:30 am, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Friday.
Rev. Mark Derise will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Valerie Derouen and David Broussard. Gift Bearers will be Meghan Jolivette, Jordan Derouen, Anestazia LeBlanc, Gabriel LeBlanc, and Maci Dutile. Interment will follow at Broussard Cemetery in New Iberia.
Elza Mae worked as a nurses aide at Consolata Nursing Home and Erath Hospital and provided private duty care for many families, as well. She also worked at Hobart and lastly at Wal-Mart, where she retired from. She loved reading, working crossword puzzles, collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia, and being outside and working in her flowerbeds.
She is survived by her son, Kenwood Derouen of New Iberia; four daughters, Danita Journet of Broussard, Marisa Dutile and husband, Ronnie, of New Iberia, Pamela Derouen and husband, Gerald, of St. Martinville, and Phyllis Nelson and husband, Gregory, of New Iberia; her brother, Henry Broussard and wife, Judy, of Albion, CA; 10 grandchildren, Channell Derouen, Brandon Journet, Tyler Journet, Jamie LeBlanc, Cody Dutile, Valerie Derouen, Natalie, Derouen, Phillip Nelson, Grant Nelson, and Javin Derouen; 7 great grandchildren, Brailyn Jolivette, Meghan Jolivette, Jordan Derouen, Anestazia LeBlanc, Gabriel LeBlanc, Maci Dutile, and Marianna Dutile; her nephew, David Broussard of New Orleans; and two nieces, Kateri Broussard Roberts of Denver, CO and Lauren Broussard of Los Angeles, CA.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Anestazia Hayes Broussard.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Journet, Phillip Nelson, Tyler Journet, Grant Nelson, Cody Dutile, and Javin Derouen.
Honorary pallbearers will be Roland Broussard, Roy Broussard, David Broussard, and Alvin Guigneaux.
