Emanuel 'Speedy' St. Upery

NEW IBERIA - It is with great sadness that the family of Emanuel Lawrence St. Upery, 86, announces his passing on Monday, May 22, 2017, at his home surrounded by his devoted family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated 10:00 am, Monday, May 29, 2017 at St Peter's Catholic Church, 108 E St Peter St, New Iberia, LA 70560. A private Rite of Committal will be held at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Msgr. Keith DeRouen will be the Celebrant, assisted by Deacon Durk Viator. A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday from 3:30 pm until 8:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A Rosary, followed by a eulogy, will be recited at 4:00 pm Sunday. A native of New Orleans, Louisiana and a resident of New Iberia, Louisiana for the past 75 years. Emanuel was a self-made man working in the family business at Radio Service Center for 31 years and was the owner of Magic Video for the past 34 years. As a veteran of the United States Army, Mr. St. Upery served his country proudly. He was known by many names, Speedy, Grey Ghost, Silver Fox, and most affectionately known as Paw. Emanuel loved life and lived life to its fullest. He enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends. He was very active and loved being outdoors fishing and hunting. A loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, and friend, Mr. St. Upery is survived by four sons, Rene St. Upery and his wife Beverley Wendt St. Upery, Ricky St. Upery and his wife Toni LaCroix St. Upery, Mark St. Upery and his wife, Tracy Nereaux St. Upery and Andre St. Upery and his wife Simone Dugas St. Upery; two daughters, Sandra St. Upery DeRouen and her husband, Dr. Mark DeRouen and Toni St. Upery Fremin and her husband Ross Fremin; one son-in-law, William Toddy Guidry; one sister, Shirley St. Upery Mann; 19 grandchildren, Jeanne St. Upery (Vince), Michelle St. Upery Prince (Gene), Rikki St. Upery Stockstill (Sean), Alex St. Upery Beaugh (Jamie), Anthony St. Upery (Kayla), Josie St. Upery Guillot (Ryan), Marcus St. Upery (Ashton), Emmy St. Upery, Samantha St. Upery (Tomi), Miles St. Upery, Alaina St. Upery (Nathan), Stephanie DeRouen, Mallory DeRouen, Zackary Guidry, Brenon Fremin (Courtney), Brandon Fremin (Jodi), Teles Fremin (Charlie), Jodi Fremin Falgoust (Joey) and Kyle Fremin (Bailey); 29 great grandchildren and 4 more on the way. He is also survived by his loving and wonderful companion of 18 years, Gail Broussard Ackal and her children, George Ackal (Ashley), Christine Ackal, Meredith Ackal Trail (Tye) and Catherine Ackal. Emanuel was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Rita Mae Sweetie Pie DeRouen St. Upery; two sons, Glenn St. Upery and Wayne St. Upery; one daughter, Chris St. Upery Guidry; his parents, Emile Lawrence St. Upery and Manuella Truch St. Upery; one sister, Rhoda St. Upery Boudreaux; and one great grandson, Lincoln Charles Pharr.
