Breaux Bridge, LA - Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, January 3, 2009, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Emarite Gennevieve Barras Cormier, 82, who passed away on Friday, January 2, 2009 at St. Agnes Healthcare Rehab Center in Breaux Bridge.
Entombment will follow at St. Bernard Mausoleum No. 1 in Breaux Bridge.
Mrs. Cormier was a parishioner of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, where she was a member of the Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed playing Bingo, Pokeno, traveling, cooking and baking, in fact, she was known as the "Cookie Master" at St. Agnes Nursing home for many years.
Father Ed Degeyter will officiate at the funeral Mass. Assisting as Altar Servers are Michael Cormier and Michelle Guidry. Readers will be Denise Cormier and Shelba Guidry. Gift bearers will be Judy Broussard and Pricilla Melancon.
Survivors include one brother, Preston J. Barras, of Port Arthur, TX; one sister, Beatrice Stafford, of Swartz Creek, MI; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Denis Joseph Cormier; her parents, Adam and Emilie Benoit Barras; and three sisters, Odette Chance, Lenora Angelle, and Amay Gordon.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday and continue at 8 a.m. until time 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Friday.
