Emily Hinton

New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia for Emily Doumit Hinton, 95, who died Sunday, October 21, 2012 in New Iberia. Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Rev. Charles Langlois will be the Celebrant. A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday from 10:00 AM until 1:30 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd., New Iberia, LA 70560, 337.365.3331. A native of New Iberia, Mrs. Hinton was born on February 25, 1917 to Joseph and Mary Ashy Doumit. She enjoyed cooking wonderful meals, and loved celebrating holidays, and special occasions, with her family and friends. Mrs. Hinton was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, and a former member of the New Iberia Garden Club. She is survived by her daughters, Pam H. Thornton and husband Lyman 'Butch' of New Iberia, Mary Jo H. Manning of New Iberia; grandchildren, Lyman Thornton, III and wife Edith of Baton Rouge, Charles H. Thornton and wife Ann of Lafayette, Pamelia Cuccia and husband Mike of Baton Rouge, Allison Herrera and husband Juan of Lafayette, Ashley Dartez and husband Bob of Lafayette; great grandchildren, Emily Herrera, Bradley Thornton, Ashley Kathryn Herrera, Hinton Thornton, Jacob Thornton, Anna Dartez, Mitchell Thornton, Emily Cuccia, and Rebecca Cuccia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Hinton; brothers and sisters, Rumsa 'Rose' Ashy, Nazeria Ashy, Roger Doumit, Michelle Doumit, Stella Elias, Dougie Huber, Emile Doumit; and a son-in-law, Francis 'Mel' Manning. Pallbearers will be Butch Thornton, Lyman Thornton, III, Robert A. Mahtook, Jr., Charles Thornton, Michael Doumit, Juan Herrera, Bob Dartez, and Mike Cuccia. Honorary pallbearers include Dr. Darryl Elias and wife Patsy Elias, Margaret Ashy, Joan Doumit, and Rosalind Stockstill. The family would like to give special thanks to Verna Boutte, Ruby Smith, Janice Barideaux, and the Staff of Belle Teche Nursing Home.
