New Iberia – Private services will be held for the immediate family of Emily Romero Menard, 87, who passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020 in Lafayette.
A long-time resident of Cade, Louisiana, Emily was born in Coteau, Louisiana on March 31, 1933 to the late Alcide and Clodia Toles Romero. She looked forward to family and friends dropping by for coffee and a visit and was always ready with a bright smile and a warm cup. She babysat for many families in her lifetime, and countless children called her Granny for that reason. As they grew up and came to visit again, they were always welcomed with open arms and lively conversation.
Emily was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. She collected a large library of cookbooks and loved to watch food tutorials and cooking channels in her spare time. She also enjoyed tending to her rose and vegetable gardens. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, Emily was predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years, Rivers. They were married on September 25, 1949 and lived their whole lives in Cade, LA where they built a life and family.
She leaves behind her children, Lou A. Leblanc of Georgia, son, Jay Menard and wife Mary of Tennessee, son, Jerry Menard and wife Melanie of Cade, and daughter Tammy Soirez and husband Carl of New Iberia. She also leaves behind her grandson, Mikel Menard and wife Saori of Okinawa, Japan, granddaughter, Jamie Menard and son Rivers of Lafayette, granddaughter, Amanda Sonnier and husband Brad of Duson, grandson, Owen Ambrose and wife Prescilla of Texas, granddaughter, Meena Breaux of Cade, grandson, Eric Soirez of Cade, and grandson Corey Soirez of Liberty Hill, Texas.
