Emma Louise Babineaux Waguespack was born in New Iberia, Louisiana on February 23, 1932, to the late Claude M. and Edma DeRouen Babineaux. She graduated from New Iberia High School, then pursued her passion for education, attending USL and ultimately influencing countless young minds. She devoted herself to teaching at Mt. Carmel Academy and North Street Elementary, not only educating minds, but nurturing hearts and imparting lessons that extended far beyond the classroom walls.

Emma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, teacher, and friend. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. A devoted wife to a Deacon and a devout Catholic, she was a fierce prayer warrior, dedicated to praying the rosary daily. Her deep and abiding trust in God was an inspiration to all. Emma embodied kindness and love in every aspect of her life; her gentle spirit radiated warmth, and she gave of herself freely, teaching her children by example how to love unconditionally, forgive easily, and live with grace.

Mrs. Waguespack is survived by her children, Kenneth Waguespack, Jr. (Geri), Michael Waguespack Weber (Jerome), Andre’ Waguespack, Monique Waguespack Derouen, Joey Waguespack III (Wanda Romero), Julie Waguespack Spedale (Tom), Nicole Waguespack Escuriex (Jeff Bonin), and Marcelle Waguespack Hebert (Marc); grandchildren, Samuel Weber, Sarah Wells, Rebecca Weber, Maddy Weber, Adam Waguespack, Eric Waguespack, John Fountain, Jr., Paul Fountain, Michael Fountain, Matthew Derouen, Dustin Waguespack, Lindsey Waguespack, Alexander Dietlein, Emma Faber, Emily Escuriex, Clare Escuriex, Cecilia Escuriex, Maggie Escuriex, Allison Jones, Nicholas Boudreaux, Kaitlyn Boudreaux, Christopher Boudreaux, Andrew Boudreaux, Hali Vaughn, and Mica Hebert; 25 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews that she helped raise as her own, Sheryl Babineaux, Marc Babineaux (Tammy), Tommy Babineaux (Brenda), Dale Babineaux (Jane), and Jeanne Elmer (Walter).

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Kenneth P. Waguespack, Sr.; brother, Claude Babineaux, Jr.; a granddaughter, Meagan Derouen; and nephews, Danny and Charles Babineaux.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Landmark of Acadiana; Hope Hospice, especially nurse Melody Coleman; Deacon Russell Hayes; and her sitter, Edie Bonvillain for extraordinary care and compassion.
