St. Martinville - A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm, on Saturday, October 3, 2015, at Union Baptist Church in St. Martinville, for Ernest "Nicken" Paul Anthony, 66, who passed away on Monday, September 28, 2015, in Marrero, Louisiana.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 7:00 am until 12:30 pm on Saturday.
Rev. Joel Greene will officiate at the Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Union Baptist Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Ernest was a member of Screen Actors Guild, New Life Church in Westwego, and Morning Star Church in St. Martinville. He actively volunteered supervising the 2nd Harvest food pantry at New Life Church in Westwego, and enjoyed feeding the homeless throughout his community. During his life, he was welder at Everest and Jennings in California for seventeen years, and a foreman at Avondale Shipyard in Avondale, Louisiana for twenty three years. After he retired, Ernest became an actor and was featured in various movies, including Pride, Treme, and Barber Shop 2. He honorably served his country as a sergeant in the United States Air Force.
He is survived by his daughters, Monica Batiste and husband Stephen of St. Martinville, Ernestine Anthony of Westwego, Tyra Haynes and husband Duane of Westwego, LA, Velona Dennis and husband Jerel of New Iberia, Cherrie Woodson and husband Cody of Opelousas, and Destiny Anthony of St. Martinville; brother, Wilton "Tulut" Anthony, Sr. and wife Juanita of St. Martinville; sister in laws, Mary Belva Anthony of St. Martinville, Mazel Anthony of St. Martinville, and Phyllis Anthony-Linzer of New Iberia; 22 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by father, Willie J. Anthony, Jr.; mother, Josephine Cora Simon Anthony; son, Willie J. Anthony, III; three brothers, Joseph Anthony Sr., Horace Anthony Sr., and Alton Anthony; sister, Savannah Youman; and brother in law, William Youman.
Pallbearers will be Tra-Michael Anthony, Ty-Vonta Anthony, Takoda Anthony, John Conner, Keyvon Batiste, and Kayvon Batiste.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wilton "Tulut" Anthony Sr., Stephen Batiste, Duane Haynes, Jerel Dennis, and Cody Woodson.
