Breaux Bridge, Louisiana - A funeral service and Mass of a Christian burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 16, 2024, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church honoring the life of Ernest "E.J." Ledet.
A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Breaux Bridge on Friday from 4:00pm to 9:00pm and will continue Saturday 7:00am-9:30am.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00pm on Friday.
Rev. George-Bede Ajuruchi, SSJ will officiate the Funeral Mass. Burial will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery.
Ernest Julius Ledet, affectionately known as "EJ", a revered and beloved member of the community, departed on Monday, November 11, 2024, in Breaux Bridge, at the age of 71. His passing leaves an immense void in the lives of those who loved and knew him. He was a visible advocate in the community and a remarkable person whose presence brought joyfulness and motivation to all those who had the pleasure of working and serving with.
Born on February 16, 1953, Ernest was always an overachiever and led an active life focused on the progression of his family and his community from an early age. EJ graduated from Carver High School at the age of 17 years old. Upon graduating, he was hired by BP Amoco Oil company where he spent 18 yrs. growing his career. Maturing as a leader, EJ made the decision to attend the University of Southwestern University, where he graduated and received a degree in Safety Administration. Ernest married Alma Boyd and together, they grew their family and presence in the community as he emerged as an avid entrepreneur. With the loving support of family, he invested in himself and opened many businesses to serve the community including multiple grocery stores, a tax preparation service & consultancy, a taxi service, and a host of entertainment businesses. His overall goal was to grow the industry by helping others grow their own personal businesses. Ernest always had a vested interest in the upward progression of those around him and carried out this vision serving as a two term District C City Councilman and promoted the first Martin Luther King Jr march and parade. He was an extraordinary person with a big heart and a spirit of giving. His generosity knew no boundaries and he touched countless lives through his acts of kindness and goodwill. Through his unwavering selfless efforts, Ernest has been recognized by many organizations, including the National Association of University of Women and the State of Louisiana House of Representatives for his role as an outstanding businessman within the community.
EJ had many interests and passions that brought joy to his life. Known for his love of horses, he was a dedicated trainer who participated in and won many horse races. While he had many hobbies, everyone knows he was at his best when fishing and riding his motorcycle. His enthusiastic spirit led him to travel to many places to experience new things, people, and cultures.
Above all else, Ernest took immense pride in his church, raising his children, and being with family showing love and dedication. As a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and the Knights of St Peter Clavier Council 49, faith and family was the cornerstone of his life.
EJ is survived by his children, Chad Broussard (Lafernette), Ernest "Ernie" Ledet (Tiffany), Kenny Ledet (Dominesha), Selina Ledet, and Christie Massie (Emmett); also raised children: Raylon Wiltz and Kalen Wiltz; siblings, Orel Ledet, Will Bradley Ledet (Linda), Clayton Ledet (Bobbie), Linda Ledet Handy, Betty Ledet, and Mauricia Ledet Walters (Raymond); 19 grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Enola Edmond Ledet; wife, Alma Boyd Ledet; and brother, Nathan Ledet.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Ledet, Ernest D. Ledet, Amir Ledet, Chad Broussard II, Sage Broussard, Tyrone Sylvester, Orel Ledet, Jr., Galen Alexander, and Si Ledet.
Honorary pallbearers will be Chad Broussard, Clyde Menard, Nicolas Massie, Kasyn Alexander, Kaeyon Alexander, and Reginald Ledet.
Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge will be overseeing the arrangements.
