It is with great sadness that the daughters of Esperanza Hope Gonzalez announce her passing after a brief illness. Hope as she was known was 89 years old.
She was born and raised in a small southern Texas town of Orange Grove to Felipe and Maria Lopez Rios, until she married a World War II soldier whom she was writing to during his service overseas.
Hope lived a simple and humble life mostly in Breaux Bridge moving here in 1957 with her husband and five daughters. She was a devoted stay at home mom for many years. She learned how to drive at forty and started working at nearby nursing homes and at Gary Memorial Hospital. She was well known for being a dedicated caretaker in the community until her health hindered her to do so. She still receives Christmas cards from some of the families. She spent a lot of time with her family and friends. She loved going to the Bingo and the Casino. She attended Bingo right up till the end. She had a beautiful personality, she loved people and people loved her. She was so trusting of people that she sometimes got into trouble. We didnt laugh then but we do now because she had a good heart! We will have great memories and lots of laughs to remember her by.
She will be forever lovingly missed by her daughters, Lydia Gonzalez and her companion (L J Higginbotham), Odelia Gonzalez, Sylvia Gonzalez Swartz (Paul), Carolina Gonzalez Noland (Richard), Suzanna Gonzalez and her companion Kerry Gholson.
She will also be affectionately remembered by her nine grandchildren Tami M. Bourque, Michael Mahfouz, Abbie Feerick, Collette Le Bourgeois, Jean Paul Guidry, Scarlet Berard, Gina B. Gonzalez, Glen Richard, and Haley Richard.
She will also be fondly remembered by her eighteen great-grandchildren, T.J., Danielle, and Mary Beth Bourque, Kody and Serena Mahfouz, Chelsea, Ashley and Beau Feerick, Gracie, Estelle and Dylan Le Bourgeois, Jean Luke and Jacque Guidry, Sophie Berard, Isabella and Josephine Craig, Seth and Sadie Richard and one great-great grandchild Rylynn Bourque.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Crispin Gonzalez, her parents, Felipe Rios and Maria Lopez Rios, her sisters Lenora Vasquez, Olivia Rivera, Christina Gutierrez, her brother Alfredo Rios.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Evangeline Oaks Nursing Home, Heart of Hospice and all her wonderful personal caretakers for their care and support.
