St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4 p.m., on Friday, October 15, 2010, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Ethel Rose Gary Oubre, 76, who passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. Entombment will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum in St. Martinville. Msgr. J. Douglas Courville will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Charlotte Gauthier and Celeste Ransonet. Her grandchildren will serve as Gift Bearers. A special musical selection will be sung by her niece, Louisette Hulin, accompanied by organist, Pat Melancon.Mrs. Oubre was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville. She enjoyed helping customers at Tee Wee Fashions, while in her free time she also enjoyed traveling and gardening. A proud member of A.A.R.P, she was also an active participant with the Cajun Dancers, and the St. Martinville Rosary Group. She was a loving and kindhearted woman, whose life was filled with joy and laughter, which she brought into the lives of her family and friends. Ethel Rose was a wonderful cook and looked forward to preparing her weekly dinners for her family to gather together and enjoy - treating everyday as though it was a holiday. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and often expressed how proud she was of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren; she will be dearly missed by all who had the honor of knowing and loving her. Survivors include her devoted and loving husband of 58 years, Allen Oubre, Sr., of St. Martinville; two sons, Burt Oubre and his wife, Arleen, and Allen 'Buddy' Oubre, Jr. and his wife, Rene, all of St. Martinville; one daughter, Brenda Courville and her husband, Sim, of St. Martinville; two brothers, Louis Gary and his wife, Elsie, and Wilfred Gary and his wife, Hilda, all of Parks; six grandchildren, Casie, Jason, Jenna, Kristen, Alex, and Ryan Oubre; and three great grandchildren, Emma and Evan Oubre, and Shepard Dupuis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claby and Delia Poirrier Gary. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday and continue at 7 a .m. until 3:30 p.m. on Friday. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Pallbearers will be Allen 'Buddy' Oubre, Jr., Burt Oubre, Alex Oubre, Jason Oubre, Sim Courville, and Brent 'Pookie' Poche. Honorary pallbearers will be Louis and Wilfred Gary. Her family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Karen Roden, Louisiana Oncology staff, Dr. Milton Jolivette, and 4th floor SICU staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center, for the constant care, compassion, and concern given to her during her illness, you will all forever be in our thoughts and prayers.
