A lifelong area resident, Evelyn “Maw” Moreaux Girard was born in Jefferson Island, Louisiana on March 18, 1938, to the late Albert and Rosemary Bourque Moreaux. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose nurturing uplifted and embraced all around her. Her culinary skills were a testament to her love, as she poured her heart into cooking for family gatherings, filling their lives with warmth and laughter around the dinner table.
Maw’s zest for life was infectious. She found joy in simple pleasures – gathering with family and friends, eating out, sharing stories, and playing games. Whether it was the thrill of a Bourree game or the anticipation of victory in Bingo, her laughter and competitive spirit brightened the atmosphere. She cherished moments spent at the casino, where the sparkle of slots matched her vivacious personality.
Her family will forever remember her as the heart of their home, embodying love and togetherness. Evelyn's legacy will live on through the cherished memories of her joyous spirit, her brilliant smile, and the invaluable lessons of compassion and kindness she imparted to all who knew her.
Mrs. Girard is survived by children, Clayton Girard (Jackie), Michael Girard (Melinda), Tammy Vincent, Michelle Speer (Paul), and Lisa Pisani (Chuck); eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Minos Girard; daughter, Sheila Romero; grandchildren, Matthew Romero and Jenna Girard; and siblings, Adam Moreaux, Rene Moreaux, Ernest Moreaux, Robert Moreaux, Hilda Mae Viator, Marie Broussard, Rosa Primeaux, Rita Thibodeaux, and Hilda Derouen.
Pallbearers will be Clayton Girard, Michael Girard, Chuck Pisani, Brad Romero, Josh Romero, and Chad Broussard.
Mrs. Girard leaves behind a tapestry of treasured moments and profound love that will continue to illuminate our lives. May she rest in peace.
