A loving father and grandfather, Everett Talbot Giroir, Jr. was born in New Iberia on January 30, 1955 to the late Carolyn Stone Giroir and Everett Talbot Giroir, Sr. He and his father were charter members of Iberia Builders Association, and he was the owner of Talbot Giroir Construction Co. Talbot was very active in the community. He was a member of the Krewe of Andalusia and the Krewe of Iberians, and he was one of the first participants and organizers of The Gumbo Cookoff.
Talbot is survived by three daughters, Sydney Jo LeBlanc and husband Jed LeBlanc, Lanie McCroskey and husband Samuel McCroskey, and Mary Courtney Giroir and Taylor Dugas, all of New Iberia; five grandchildren, Joseph LeBlanc, Ellie LeBlanc, Lucy LeBlanc, Patrick McCroskey, and Thomas McCroskey; a sister, Carole Ann Hasty and Michael Hasty of Wilmington, NC; step-mother, Vivian Giroir, former wife, Liz Thibodeaux; and godson, Matthew Naquin, all of New Iberia.
In 1998, Talbot suffered a traumatic brain injury and spent his time since then in various nursing homes, and under the medical care of many amazing people that not only cared for him, but served as support for his family. Therefore, there are many to thank over the years, especially Iberia Manor South Nursing Home, where Talbot spent the last 8 years of his life. Special thanks also to Trish Nims, Chad Trahan, Lucas Corona, Dr. Robert Lahasky, Dr. Henry Kwong, Dr. Patrick Juneau, Amy Broussard, and Paul Broussard.
The family would also like to thank the following people that were so important in the care, comfort, and support of his family in his final days: Parker Templeton and Iberia Medical Center, specifically the Emergency Department and second floor staff, Bridgeway Hospice, especially Hollie, Dr. Leslie Greco, Dr. Jason Morvant, Daphne Landry, Father Garrett Savoie, Father Mark Derise, and Deacon Durk Viator.
Talbot was proud of his family and loved a good time. He was known for his funny sense of humor, hilarious jokes, and his power of giving. He loved to give, especially to those in need. Whether they needed a gumbo, a new piece of furniture, or help cooking barbecue at 5AM on Sundays. He gave his time cooking for people. He gave his talent of building, whether it be for the treehouse at his childs school, or a neighbor that was in need of a desk. He gave love, especially to his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.
Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family feels that an even greater tribute to his memory would be memorial contributions in his name given to the Lynn Ditch Memorial Fund at St. Edward School, the Catholic High School Endowment Fund, or the Iberia Medical Center Foundation. His legacy would be greater served in this way and make him proud.
