Ewell J. Poirier

St. Martinville - A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:30 pm on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church for Ewell J. Poirier, 88, who passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Landmark of Acadiana Nursing Home.

Father Jason Vidrine will officiate at the Memorial Mass. Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery Mausoleum.

Ewell was a life-long mechanic, working many years for the City of St. Martinville. Ewell was a devoted husband until the very end, and he took great care of his beloved wife, Ethel. He lived a quiet life, but one of his greatest passions was gardening. He loved spending time with his companion of over 20 years, Helen, as well as his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ewell was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his daughter, Stephenie Poirier Kelley (Robert "Big Bob"); grandchildren, Seth Poirier, Jacob Poirier, Schalacey Poirier, Chelsea Poirier and Shelby Poirier; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; companion, Helen Tauzin; step-children, Malcolm Poche (Beanie), Mark Poche (Christine), Carla Boggs (Jody) and Toni Akres (Isaac); brothers, Julian Poirier, Jr., Donald Poirier, Sr. (Juliette) and Rodney Poirier, Sr. (Barbara); sisters, Margaret Segura and Rosie Hulin; as well as a host of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Poirier; sons, Ewell "Timmy" Poirier, Jr. and Dana Poirier; grand-daughter, Natasha Poirier; father, Julian Poirier, Sr.; mother and step-father, Euphemie Romero Hollier and Larry Hollier; brothers, Francis Poirier and Louis Poirier; and sisters, Edmae Freeman, Julia Blanchard, Rosebell Breaux and Patsy Ann Gonzales.
