Henderson - Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., on Friday, February 10, 2012, at Pellerin Funeral Home Chapel in Henderson for Fernest Jean Benoit, 83, who passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at his residence.
Deacon Arthur Bakeler will conduct the funeral service. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in Henderson.
Mr. Benoit was the General Manager at Schoeffler Cadillac in the early 60s and was a private investigator by profession. He served on the Crime Victims Reparations Board and was actively involved with the organization for 22 years. In his free time he enjoyed doing odds and ends around his home and fishing and shrimping at his camp in Grand Chenier.
Survivors include his wife, Lana Ortis Benoit of Henderson; one son, Dale Benoit of Henderson; two daughters, Barbara Doiron and her husband, Phillippe, of Parks, and Cheryl Messa and her husband, Rickey, of Lafayette; one sister, Irene Manuel and her husband, Herman, of Lafayette; four grandchildren, Alex Guidry, Blaise Benoit, Myles Theriot, and Simone Benoit; and one great grandchild, Jackson Drew Guidry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Althema J. and Rose Bella Usie Benoit.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday and continue on Friday at 9 a.m. until 12:45 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Rickey Messa, Phillippe Doiron, Alex Guidry, Myles Theriot, Alphonse Roberts, Sr., and Leroy Guidry.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wesley Serrette and Herman Manuel.
The family wishes to extend their sincerest special thanks to Drs. Gary Guidry and Warren Degatur, the staffs of Lafayette General Medical Center, St. Martin Hospital, Heart of Hospice, and Pauline Latiolais, for the wonderful and compassionate care given to Mr. Benoit during his time of need.
