A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Polk was born on April 18, 1946, to the late James and Whilemena Boutte Conner. She was the proud owner of Vern’s Arts and Crafts, where she infused her passion for art. Her dedication to her craft was evident in the exquisite pillows and aprons she lovingly crafted as a seamstress. Each stitch told a story, carrying with it the essence of her talent and the love she put into her work.
In addition to her artistic endeavors, Vernadean nurtured a deep love for gardening. The gardens she tended were a vivid testament to her nurturing spirit, bursting with life and color, much like her personality. She found joy and solace amidst the plants, always eager to share the beauty of her blooms with neighbors and friends.
Vernadean will be deeply missed. She leaves behind a legacy of love, artistry, and kindness that will continue to inspire many. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Wilfred Polk, Sr.; children, Judith Polk, Terrance Polk (Robin), and Lakondra Hines (Terren); siblings, Elva Mae Ford, James Conner, Jr. (Betty), Gloria Barlow, and Joanna Robinson; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded death by a son, Wilfred Polk, Jr; and siblings, Louella Carvin, John Nelson Conner, Ruby Armstead, John Reno, and Joann Thibodeaux.
