New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Monday, February 11, 2008, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, in Lydia for Frank "Poppie" DeRise, 86, who died Friday, February 8, 2008 at his residence.
Interment will follow in the St. Nicholas Cemetery, in Patoutville.
Rev. Donovan Labbe will be the Celebrant.
A native of Louisa, "Poppie" was a resident of Lydia, and was retired from Morton Salt Company with over 37 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during WWII. "Poppie" enjoyed fishing, woodworking, playing pool and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Dolores Stein DeRise of Lydia; daughters, Frankie Green and husband Randy of Houston, Robyn Crochet and husband Gary of Lydia, Theresa Romero and husband Ernest of Lydia; sister, Louise Jacob and husband Merrill of Glencoe; grandchildren, Tiffany Crochet Fountain and husband Scott, Justin Green and wife Sarah, Elise Green, Hanna Romero, Hunter Romero; great grandchild, Aubrey Fountain and a great grandson due to arrive in March.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hypolite and Mary Ewing DeRise; brothers, Jimmy DeRise, Henry DeRise, Robert DeRise, Roland DeRise, Roy DeRise, Lloyd DeRise; sisters, Olean Rivet and Alice Hogan.
Pallbearers will be Gary Crochet, Ernest Romero, Randy Green, Scott Fountain, Justin Green, and Hunter Romero.
Honorary pallbearers include Merrill Jacob and all of his nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Sunday. Visitation will continue Monday from 8:00 AM until 10:15 AM at the funeral home.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in "Poppie's" memory to the Lydia Cancer Association, P.O. Box 731, Lydia, LA. 70569.
