Cecilia - A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Cecilia, for Fred E. Cormier who passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2013. The family requests that visiting hours be observed Thursday, from 7:00 a.m. until time of service at Pellerins Funeral Home in Cecilia. Deacon Ken Soignier will lead a rosary at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Josephs Cemetery. Fred was born in Breaux Bridge on December 26, 1923. He served in the US Army Air Corps from 1942-1945 as a Tech Sergeant with the 459th Bomb Group. He was shot down on his 50th bomb mission. He was a POW at Stalag Luft IV for 10 months. Fred was a member of the VFW, 459th Bomb Group Association and the 15th Air Force Association. Fred began working for the Corps of Engineers in 1941 and continued with them until 1949. He then went to work for the USDA and retired in 1980 as County Executive Director. From 1966-1974 he served on the board of the Selective Service. He also served on the Board of Directors for Citizens National Bank after retirement. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener - a true outdoorsman. He was a member of the Indian Bayou Hunting Club, Bayou Bass Anglers and a founding member of Pelbay Hunting Club. Fred is survived by his wife of 59 years Alice Hebert Cormier, a son, Robert 'Glen' (Emelise) Cormier of Baton Rouge, and a daughter Yvonne (David) Cameron of Cecilia: six grandchildren including, Kevin Cormier, Jacob Cormier, and Corinne Cormier; Ira (Christie) Cameron, Steven Cameron, Robert Cameron,: and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister Margaret Roberts of Jeanerette. He was preceded in death by his parents, Laurent and Agnes (Green) Cormier; brothers, Sidney, James, Laurent Jr.; sisters Lurcy Wyatt, Irene Dupre, and Pearl Judice. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 Pellerin Funeral Home of Cecilia is in charge of arrangements.
