St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 16, 2019, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville for Frederick Joseph Savoy, Sr., 67.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Notre Dame Catholic Church from 7:00 am until 10:00 am on Saturday.
A rosary will be prayed at 8:30 am on Saturday.
Rev. Michael Sucharski, SVD will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery.
Frederick Joseph Savoy, Sr. was born to the late Samson John Savoy and the late Ida Marie George Savoy on March 4, 1952 in St. Martinville, Louisiana. He departed this life on November 6, 2019 at St. Agnes Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. He was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and he was married to Mildred Savoy for 33 years and from that union it was one girl and three boys. He was a loving father to Frederick Jr., Sylvester, Constance, and Michael.
He was an accomplished musician, with a love for the Piano, Organ, Guitar, Saxophone and Trombone. He was an amazing vocalist that loved singing for the Lord. He had a deep love for music, maintaining a publishing name as Freddie Love. He was also a diehard Cowboys fan and occasionally loved the Saints Football Team as long as Drew Brees was playing.
Frederick was enrolled at a young age into Southern University State School for the Blind and graduated in 1973 and later received a Bachelor of Music in 1980 and a Master of Arts in Counselor Education in 1981 from Southern University Agricultural and Mechanical College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
He leaves to cherish, his former wife Mildred Savoy; his sons Frederick Savoy, Jr, wife (Clarissa) of Dallas, TX, Sylvester Savoy and Michael Savoy of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; one daughter Constance Savoy of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; twelve grandchildren; five brothers, Wilson Savoy (Willa Mae) of Baytown, TX, Harold Whitney Savoy, Sr., Willie Allen Savoy (Margaret), Jasper Martin Savoy (Janice), and Charles Ray George of St. Martinville, Louisiana; four sisters Mary Joyce George, Monitta Theresa Jones (Alvin), Zelma Savoy (Leroy Banks), and Mary Camille Savoy of St. Martinville, Louisiana; two sisters-in-law, Pamela Savoy and Lucy Savoy of St. Martinville, Louisiana; one Aunt Hilda George Chambers of St. Martinville, Louisiana; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; three brothers, Christopher Savoy, Charlie Savoy, Sr., and Samuel Patrick Savoy; two sisters-in-law, Mary Joyce Savoy and Debra Key George; one brother-in-law, John Cleveland George; his maternal grandparents, Anita Parker George and Nicholas George; and his paternal grandparents, Anita Robertson and Henry Savoy.
He also has a special friend, Mr. Nick, who will meet him there, who loved him with all his heart, and stuck by his side during their musical adventures.
Pallbearers will be Frederick Joseph Savoy, Jr., Conner Savoy, Byron Savoy, Chris Anthony George, Todd Patrick Savoy, and Willie Jones.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sylvester Love Savoy, Harold Whitney Savoy, Sr., Willie Allen Savoy, Jasper Martin Savoy, Michael Rays Savoy, Wilson Savoy, Sr., and David Savoy.
