A native and resident of New Iberia, Gail Fremin Waldmann was born on May 25, 1946, to the late Wilton and Bertha Viator Fremin. She graduated from New Iberia High School in 1964 before attending Dominican College in New Orleans with aspirations of joining the convent and becoming a nun. However, fate had different plans for Gail during her first year at college. She met the love of her life, and they were married soon after. Together they went on to raise ten children filled with love and cherished memories.
Gail's professional journey began at her father's grocery store, Fremin's Food and Furniture. However, upon the arrival of her sixth child, Gail chose to dedicate her time to being a homemaker. She excelled in this role as a seamstress and childcare provider while raising her children. Her home was always filled with warmth and love.
Later on, when Gail decided to return to work outside of her home, she found true joy at Hancock Fabrics. Surrounded by bolts of fabric and patterns that spoke to her passion for sewing, Gail thrived while assisting customers who shared her love for the craft. Additionally, Gail worked as a skilled seamstress at Abform in Broussard. Her attention to detail and dedication were admired by all who had the pleasure of working with her. Gail eventually returned to her family's grocery store until the time of her retirement.
Gail's devotion extended beyond her family life. She actively participated in various organizations such as Teresians, Catholic Daughters, Girl Scouts, and Boy Scouts. She also taught Catechism classes, and served on multiple PTA committees with St. Edward School, Mt. Carmel Academy, Catholic High School, and Center Street Elementary. Gail was a Team Mom, selflessly volunteering for any cause involving her children and church. Her dedication left an incredible impact on the lives she touched.
