Breaux Bridge - A Memorial Mass will be held at 2:30 p.m., on Sunday, May 16, 2010, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Gale Eve Lormand Anderson, 69, who passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2010 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.Scriptures will be read by Ronnie Dor and Joyce Menard. Gift Bearers will be Andrea Devillier and Edward and Fran Lormand.Gale Lormand Anderson was born in Crowley and attended St. Michael School. She then attended USL and received her Baccalaureate in Music and her Masters Degree in Administration and Supervision. She has one brother, Eddie Lormand and her sister-in-law Frannie Lormand.Gale taught band and chorus at Breaux Bridge High School for numerous years. She worked diligently with students in both areas and produced a great marching band and superb choral department. It was she who first produced the musical production 'The Beat Goes On.' ; Such a production was videotaped and can be viewed in the Breaux Bridge area. Gale also worked with St. Bernard Church, as Choir Director, in providing a fantastic choir composed of community members with beautiful angelic voices.She was instrumental in taking students to other countries, including Mexico, Belize, and Germany to name a few. Most of those students had never been out of Breaux Bridge before, and it was Gale who provided them the opportunity to view the world outside St. Martin Parish.In 1990 Gale became Assistant Principal at Breaux Bridge High School, working with Ronnie Dor. Together they worked with the faculty to create the 4 X 4 Block Schedule which is still existence in St. Martin Parish. Gale was a caring person, listening to all students discuss their problems and finding solutions to assist them. She was an avid student and teacher advocate who often returned home with school issues on her mind, trying to find ways to bring harmony to the school environment. In 1999 Gale retired from the St. Martin Parish School Board. The 1999-2000 Breaux Bridge Yearbook was dedicated to her as 'Woman of the Millennium.'Gale had many important people whose lives she touched and who touched her life. Her most prized possession was her beautiful daughter, Joanna. Joanna was truly a blessing and the joy of Gales life. They shared happy times studying together, especially when Joanna had specific math and physics exams at UL. They shared vacations together, most notably at their home away from home in Pleasant Bay, Nova Scotia, an area loved and cherished by Gale due to the beauty, weather, and environment of the place. Pleasant Bay was their summer home, a place they stayed from April to October each year. The pure, clean air of the area helped Gale to breathe better due to Gales breathing difficulties. However, Gales health began to fail when she lost her only child, Joanna in 2006. She never fully recovered from Joannas unexpected death.Another inspirational person in Gales life was her best friend and companion, Andrea Devillier. Both worked together building all types of items as bird houses, fire place screens with colorful scenery, Christmas wooden cut outs, creating an Atchafalaya Basin scene on Ronnie and Brenda Dors cement patio floor, painting their house in Crowley and refurbishing their home in Pleasant Bay, Nova Scotia. In fact, Andrea worked diligently building a front porch to their Pleasant Bay home so they could sit in the cool evenings to view spectacular sunsets, enjoy the bright skies at night filled with stars, sometimes even watching the Northern Lights flicker about, viewing the whales and many other forms of wildlife from their porch. No work was ever impossible for Andrea to complete once Gale stated that she wanted a certain item to be built. Together, they traveled and cared for family and friends. Andrea was also a great care taker. She would take Gale to the doctor, hospital, or wherever Gale needed to go with never a negative comment. They were inseparable and worked well together.Today, Gale is at peace with her daughter, Joanna, her mom, Thelma, and her dad, Oscar.
