Gale Romero Fontenot

New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 PM, on Tuesday, February 24, 2015, at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church in New Iberia, for Gale Romero Fontenot, 68, who passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2015, in New Iberia. A gathering of family and friends will Monday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Monday. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until 12:45 PM. Rev. Mario Romero will be the Celebrant. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in New Iberia. A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Fontenot was born on February 15, 1947 to Louis B. Romero, II and Florence Duplantis Romero. She was a Little League Baseball coach and IYBA scorekeeper for many years. Mrs. Fontenot also enjoyed bowling, fishing, and camping. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Maurice "Junior" Fontenot, Jr. of New Iberia; daughter, Barbara Fontenot Breaux and husband Russell of Lafayette;, son, Lionel James Fontenot of New Iberia; brothers, Gerald Romero and wife Sissy of New Iberia, Greg Romero and wife Rowena of New Iberia, Jack Romero of Texas, Benny Romero of New Iberia; sister, Sandra Courrege and husband Bert of New Iberia; 7 Grandchildren, Brooke Fontenot, Braylin Fontenot, Bryce Breaux, Lane Breaux, Troy Breaux, Nikki Breaux Cormier, Lance Breaux; and 8 Great Grandchildren. In adddition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Connie Romero Migues and Carla Romero; and a brother, Louis B. "Buddy" Romero, III. Pallbearers will be Lionel Fontenot, Russell Breaux, Bryce Breaux, Lane Breaux, James Saucier, and Mike Romero. Honorary pallbearers include Cody Stansbury, Kohen Stansbury, and Gerald Romero. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heart of Hospice, 201 W. Vermilion, Lafayette, LA 70501.
