New Iberia - Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM , Tuesday, July 5, 2011 , at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia, for Garland Babin 76, who passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 in Lafayette . Interment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery . Deacon Chris Doumit will officiate. Born on November 9, 1934 , Mr. Babin worked for over 50 years in many restaurants in New Orleans , including, Antoine's, Arnaud's and Tujac's. A resident of Loreauville for the last 5 years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, taking care of his horses and riding his scooter all over town. Survivors include his daughters, Yolande Babin, Cynthia Babin, and Michelle Childs all of New Orleans ; sisters, Clelie Babin Svoboda and husband Richard of Ft. Worth, Texas, Theresa Babin Romero of Crowley, Thelma Babin Hulin and husband Curtis of New Iberia, Jenny Babin Lopiccolo of New Iberia, Jane Babin Stevick of DeRidder; 7 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Vega Babin; son, Carlos Babin; daughter, Garlene Babin; parents, Leo and Yolande Melancon Babin; brothers, Harold Babin, Antoine Babin, Howard, Babin, Ervin Babin; sisters, Cecila 'Sis' Metz, Eula Mae Babin Russo, Sandra Gail Babin Ball; 4 grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Russell Gonsoulin, Frederick 'Bozo' Metz , Jr., Ryan Metz, Tommy Hulin, Josh Dempsey, and Derek Babin. Honorary pallbearers include Hadley Babin, Curtis Hulin, Louis 'Sweet Lou' Babin, Jules Babin, Joel Guilbeaux, C.J. Latiolais, Jon Jordan, Thomas Gilbert, and Eric Metz. The family would like to give special thanks to Isela Kerns, Mr. Babin's caregiver, Janet Mestayer, Mary, Tintin Palmiano, David Detwiler, RN at Iberia Medical Center , and the people of Loreauville for their extraordinary care and compassion. A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd , in New Iberia .
