Gary, known to his family and friends as Bimmie, honorably served in the Louisiana Army National Guard for six years. Bimmies dedication to service not only included service to his country, but to the citizens and community of the City of Breaux Bridge, where he served as a City Councilman for District E for 11 years and also aided in the Public Works department. During those years he selflessly gave of his time and energy to helping improve his community and various other outreach projects in the surrounding areas.
Bimmie was truly a public servant dedicated to community service and never wanting any accolades for his labors. His efforts in spearheading the Breaux Bridge Save the Bridge Project and the Veterans Home Extreme Makeover literally brought an entire community together as one to restore these landmarks back to life. Bimmie was also involved with the remodel of the recently completed Veterans Park in downtown Breaux Bridge.
As a pastime, Bimmie enjoyed fishing, gardening and yardwork. He was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and loved L.S.U. Tigers football.
Bimmie loved to cook for his family but eating out at Pizza Village was always a treat for him. His love for his family was unconditional and spending time with them was always cherished moments for him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and his community of Breaux Bridge.
Bimmie is survived by his loving wife, Ellen B. Champagne; his children, Kristie Champagne and fianc, Chad Goins, Travis Champagne and wife, Tami, Courtney Cotone, and Ashley Mullins and husband Jeremy; his brother, Russell Champagne and wife Rhonda; his sister, Brenda Miller and husband Paul; his grandchildren, Kennedie Bass, Aubry Bass, Preston Goins, Beckett Champagne, Colin Cotone, and Evan Cotone; and his sister-in-law, Melinda Broussard.
