Breaux Bridge A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am, on Monday, October 6, 2014, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Geneva Gabriel Matthews, 85, who passed away on Monday, September 29, 2014. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5:00 pm until 10:00 pm on Sunday, and continue at 7:00 am until 10:00 am on Monday, at Pellerin Funeral Home in Breaux Bridge. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm on Sunday. Rev. Joseph Campion will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Lionel Batiste. Gift Bearers will be Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Soloman. Interment will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Breaux Bridge. Following the burial the repass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church Hall. Mrs. Matthews was known as the neighborhood seamstress she also enjoyed gardening and loved taking care of her family. She found great enjoyment in scratching off her lottery tickets. She is survived by three sons, Harrison Gabriel and wife, Marcella, Darrell Gabriel, and Cleveland Gabriel, Jr.; four daughters, Rebecca Wiltz, Annie Matthews, Jenita Roberts, and Jeanetta Matthews and husband, Clifton; 26 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren; a granddaughter whom she raised as her own, Samantha Matthews and two great-granddaughters, Ketria and Brianna Matthews; and her special caretakers, her niece, Serena Soloman and her daughter-in-law, Marcella Gabriel. She is preceded in death by her husband, Cleveland Matthews, Sr.; her parents, Harrison and Julia Harris Gabriel; one son, Donald Ray Matthews; two brothers, John and Memphis George Gabriel; four sisters, Lou Della Alexander, Mary Davis, Carrie Gabriel, and Melissa Gabriel; and a great grandchild, Chris Matthews. Pallbearers will be Tyrone Matthews, Keith Matthews, Clifton Matthews, Jason Domingue, Damon Wiltz, and John Gabriel. Honorary pallbearers will be Harrison Gabriel, Cleveland Gabriel, Darrel Gabriel, Memphis Matthews, Gabriel Matthews, Herbert Davis, Morris Davis, Allen Gabriel, Ricky Sam and Lawrence Celestine.
