A resident of New Iberia, Genevieve “Vee” Price was born on February 28, 1947, to the late Edward and Addie Benoit Romero. She graduated from New Iberia High School in 1965. She moved to Massachusetts, where she worked as an au pair for several years before meeting her future husband, Ronnie. When she had enough of the cold climate, she and her young family, moved back to New Iberia, where she spent the next 30 years working at the Holiday Inn, first as a waitress and finally as an amazingly talented catering director. She was a creative florist and event planner, who regularly transformed an empty banquet hall into a thing of beauty. Ever the perfectionist with her craft, she often paid for decorations out of her pocket, much to the chagrin of her husband and children.
First and foremost, Genevieve was a devout Catholic, with a deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Holy Eucharist. She never without a rosary or spares for anyone who needed one. She was who family went to when a scapular needed to be replaced or prayers needed to be said. Genevieve loved going to Mass and spending time in the Adoration Chapel. She was always praying for the souls of her children, grandchildren, family, and friends. Every birthday present included a year of Masses prayed in the recipient’s honor.
Genevieve adored, spoiled, and doted on her grandchildren. She loved cooking for family and often made home deliveries of gumbo, roast, pralines, and chocolate chip cookies. She was a caregiver at heart and gave of herself without expecting anything in return. Her home was open to anyone in need. She was deeply loved by so many and will be eternally missed by all who called her mom, mawmaw, aunt, and just plain “Vee”.
She is survived by her children, Ronda Landry (Fred) and Carroll Price (Jennifer); grandchildren, Brennan Price, Matthew Landry, Joshua Landry, Bailey Price, Aaron Landry, Brandon Price, Abigail Landry, and Jaxon Price; great grandson, Asher Price; brothers, Ernest Romero (Bobbie) and Lloyd Romero; sisters-in-law, Dee Romero, Gayle Fergerson, Linda Baker, and Carol Jane; and a brother-in-law, Jimmy Price.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Ronald G. Price; brothers, Murphy Romero and Eric Romero; sister, Janet Mestayer; brother-in-law, Carroll Mestayer; mother and father-in-law, Ervin and Gertrude Price; and brothers-in-law, Ervin Price, Jr., Denny Price, and Jerry Price.
Pallbearers will be Brennan Price, Bailey Price, Brandon Price, Matthew Landry, Joshua Landry, Aaron Landry, and Abigail Landry.
The family would like to thank her wonderful sitters, her niece, Carolyn Henry, and Jenny Street, for keeping Genevieve comfortable and well cared for. Also, the nurses, CNA's, and social workers of Hospice of Acadiana, for their kindness and support.
