New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at St. Peter Catholic Church, in New Iberia for George Ann Bernard, 64, who died Saturday, May 3, 2008 in New Iberia.
Entombment will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum.
Rev. Ed Degeyter will be the Celebrant. Readers will be Amy Sonnier and Becky Glover. Gift Bearers include Brandon Courrege, Robyn Sonnier, and Blade Broussard.
A native of Baton Rouge and a longtime resident of New Iberia, Ms. Bernard was an avid conservationist having been the first female president of the Louisiana Wildlife Federation and a lifetime member of Ducks Unlimited and the Iberia Rod and Gun Club. In addition, she was a volunteer with the American Red Cross and United Way. She enjoyed fishing and playing on the computer.
Survivors include daughters, Sandy Courrege and husband Jack of New Iberia, Natalie Broussard and husband Barry of New Iberia, Amy Sonnier and husband Bubba of Jeanerette; sisters, Katherine Kleinpeter of Gros Tete, Becky Glover of Lacombe; grandchildren, Robyn Sonnier, Brandon, Alexis, and Jeremy Courrege, Blade, Sarah, and Claire Broussard.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Arbour Sanchez; sisters, Rose Marie Lacoste, Patricia Faulkner; granddaughter, Mary Ellen Broussard.
Pallbearers will be Jack Courrege, Barry Broussard, Nelson "Bubba" Sonnier, George Kleinpeter, Ken Kleinpeter, and Bill Glover.
Honorary pallbearers include Brandon Courrege, Blade Broussard, John Minvielle, and Compton LeBauve, Jr.
A gathering of family and friends will be Monday, from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Monday. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 8:00 AM until 1:30 PM at the funeral home.
