George Blanchard

Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 am on Monday, January 13, 2025, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge for George Blanchard, 72, who passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at his residence.

A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Breaux Bridge on Sunday, January 12, 2025, from 12:00 pm until 9:00 pm. It will continue on Monday at the Carmelite Monastery in Lafayette from 9:30 am until 10:45 am.

A Rosary will be prayed in French at 7:00 pm on Sunday evening by Tommy Guidry.

Father Michael Richard will officiate at the Funeral Service. Readers will be Donna Maynes and Summer Champagne. Gift Bearers will be Dalaney Doran, Hali Dumatrait, and Lucy Olivier.

Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.

George was the founder, owner and operator of Blanchard Electric Inc. for 30 years. He had the upmost respect and dedication to the Carmelite Monastery in Lafayette, where he spent much of his time. George was also a parishioner of St. Bernard Catholic Church.

George was known for always saying what was on his mind and for having friends everywhere. He never met a stranger. George loved to scroll on Facebook and often found himself in "Facebook jail". His greatest passions were hunting, fishing and learning about history. He was a history buff that loved to learn and share with others. Above all he adored his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchild. George will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine "Kathy" Lavergne Blanchard; daughters Connie Dumatrait (Chad) and Pamela Olivier (Craig); grandchildren, Gabe Dumatrait, Hali Dumatrait, Vincent Olivier, Lucy Olivier and Dalaney Doran (Holden); great-grandchild, Eloise Doran; and his best friend and dog, Buster.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Vincent Blanchard and Marie May Broussard Blanchard; and his brother, Lynn Blanchard.

Pallbearers will be Chad Dumatrait, Gabe Dumatrait, Craig Olivier, Vincent Olivier, Holden Doran and Jonathan Lavergne.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Carmelite Monastery at 1250 Carmel Dr., Lafayette, LA 70501.
