BreauxBridge - A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for George Roy 'Choe' Guidry, 80, who passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2012.
Father Louis Allen Breaux will officiate at the Memorial Mass.
Roy graduated from Cecilia High School in 1951, then attended S.L.I. (U.L. of Lafayette), and was a certified insurance adjuster.
He served in the Army National Guard from 1951 - 1978, retiring with the rank of E-8 Master Sergeant. During his service he received the Medal of Commendation, Honorable Service Medal, Outstanding NCO, Medal of Excellence, and the National Guard Achievement Award.
Roy worked in the field with his parents until he became employed by Southern Pacific Railroad, where he worked for 10 years. He then worked for Service Fire Insurance for 4 years, and Allstate Insurance for 8 years. He was later self-employed for 20 years and worked for Lafayette Motors for 2 years before retiring in 2004.
He and Carol lived in Lafayette after their marriage. Then moved to Breaux Bridge and remained there until his death.
Roy was an avid hunter and especially loved hunting ducks. He was a charter member of the Atakapas Hunting Club. He loved to watch football on T.V., especially the L.S.U. Tigers and he was a huge fan of the Green Bay Packers.
Roy was a member of the American Legion organization and contributed to the fund for retired veterans.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Carol Champagne Guidry; his son, Dr. Scott Guidry and his wife, Mary Jane; three grandchildren, Hunt, Brad, and Mary Carol Guidry; and his sister, Renella G. Simon and her husband, Carl.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dalton and Bertha Huval Guidry; his sister and brother-in-law, Jackie and John Barras; a nephew, Tony Barras; and a great nephew, Jude Barras.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at the funeral home from 8 a.m. until 10:40 a.m. on Saturday.
A rosary will be recited at 9 a.m.
Roy's struggle and pain have concluded and he is finally at home with his Lord and His Blessed Mother.
