New Iberia - Funeral services will be held at Pellerin Funeral Home at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 1, 2024, George A. Laurents, 92, who passed away peacefully on Monday, July 29, 2024, surrounded by his family. 

Entombment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery.

Rev. William Blanda will officiate. 

The family requests visiting hours to be observed at Pellerin Funeral Home from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm Wednesday, and from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on Thursday. 

A rosary, led by the Men’s Rosary Group, will be prayed at 6:00 pm on Wednesday. 

George was born on July 5, 1932, in Gueydan, LA, to Guy A. Laurents and Emma Frank Matthews Laurents. He grew up on Laurents Pointe, where he worked on his family’s rice farm and helped his father with his tugboat business on the Mermentau River as a young man. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After returning home from service, he met the love of his life Billie. He worked in the oil field for over 40 years, working in the Gulf of Mexico, overseas in Brazil, French Guiana and Scotland, then retired from Rowan Drilling Co. with 31 years of service. During his retirement, he loved running his dogs in fox pens and spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed. 

Those left to cherish George’s memory are his loving wife of 66 years, Billie Broussard Laurents; daughter, Roxie Guilbeau (Troy); daughter-in-law, Devon Laurents; son-in-law, Donnie Bonner (Angie); grandchildren, Emily Tyl-Schoonfield (Jeremy), Jonathan Bonner, Chris Bonner (Kayla), Laura Bonner-Doucet (Blake), Aimee Bonner, Katelyn Daigle (Ty), Candace Guilbeau, Wesley Cole Laurents and Megun Laurents; and seven great-grandchildren, Kali, Bryce, Brady, Maci, Madison, Everett and Lilly. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Emma Laurents; sisters, Lila Broussard and Marjory-Ann Laurents; two daughters, Cheryl Laurents Tyl and Tina Laurents; and a son, George Curt Laurents.

Pallbearer will be Troy Guilbeau, Chris Bonner, Wesley Cole Laurents, Donnie Bonner, Bill Broussard and Clay Broussard.

Honorary pallbearers are Jonathan Bonner, Brice Doucet, Brady Doucet, Steve Broussard, Ty Daigle and Jeremy Schoonfield.
