New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Monday, October 31, 2016, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia for George Joseph Trappey Jr., 92, who passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2016, in New Iberia.
Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.
Rev. Mark Derise will be the Celebrant, and Rev. Bill John Melancon will Con-Celebrate.
A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary, led by the Men's Rosary Group, will be prayed at 7:00 PM Sunday. Visitation will continue on Monday from 8:00 AM until 10:00 AM.
Affectionately known in the community as "Popee", Mr. Trappey was born in Jeanerette on October 9, 1924 to George Trappey, Sr. and Eleanor Gonsoulin Trappey. He served our country in the U.S. Navy, during World War II at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Mr. Trappey retired as vice president of operations from B.F. Trappey and Sons, where he developed many recipes for this internationally known company. He is the owner of Plantation Village Mobile Park, and he enjoyed raising race horses, cattle, and growing his pecan trees.
Mr. Trappey was quoted as saying "Having a big family was the most joyous, fulfilling time of my life." He is survived by 109 immediate family members, including 9 children and their spouses, 26 grandchildren, and 48 great grandchildren. Survivors include his children, Laura Trappey Broussard and husband Louis of New Iberia, Brenda Trappey LeBlanc Scott and husband Bobby of New Iberia, George J. Trappey, III and wife Donna of New Iberia, Dr. Bernard A. Trappey and wife Ann of Kentwood, Bernie Trappey Ronkartz and husband Byron of Carencro, Claire Trappey Daly and husband David of New Iberia, Albert J. Trappey and wife Susie of Lafayette, John G. Trappey and wife Tessie of New Iberia, Michael V. Trappey and wife Simone of New Iberia.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Tomlinson Trappey, daughter, Barbara Ann Trappey, father, George Joseph Trappey, Sr., mother, Eleanor Gonsoulin Trappey, son-in-law, Timothy James LeBlanc, Sr., granddaughter, Blair Daly Oubre, grandson, Donald Delcambre Trappey, sisters, Dorothy Trappey Rice, and Mercedes Trappey Terrell.
Gift Bearers will be granddaughters Lisa Broussard Budge, Ashley Trappey Boyle, Angela Trappey Cestia, Leah Broussard Meador, Betsy Bouillion, Ellen Alyce Trappey, Dr. Alison Trappey Penton, Katherine LeBlanc Popp, Ann-Carol Trappey Indest, Amy Trappey Korrapati, Amelie Claire Trappey; Altar Servers, Lidia Marie Trappey, and Hannah Aline Trappey.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Timothy James LeBlanc Jr., Kenton Patrick LeBlanc, Barry J. Bouillion Jr., Dr. George J. Trappey IV, Jed Michael LeBlanc, Drew Mitchell LeBlanc, Dr. Ben Edgar Trappey, Dr. David Dolph Daly Jr., Marcus Christopher Daly, David Paul Trappey, Payton James Schexnayder, Joseph Benedict Trappey, and Andrew Philip Trappey.
