George Verret

August 12, 1937 — September 5, 2005

Catahoula - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 9, 2005, at St. Rita Catholic Church in Catahoula for George "Boy" Verret, 68, who died Monday, September 5, 2005 at Oschners Hospital in New Orleans. Interment will be in Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery in Catahoula. Mr. Verret was employed by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries for the past 32 years. He made his home along Bayou Alexon, where he spent his spare time doing what he loved the best, hunting and fishing. Survivors include his daughter, Laura Barras and her husband, Mervin of Catahoula; his sons, Errol Verret and his wife, Deidra of Catahoula, Ferril Verret and his wife, Carla of Catahoula, Vernon Verret and his wife, Monique of St. Martinville, Laverne Verret and his wife, Angela of Catahoula, and Shane Verret and his wife, Laurie of St. Martinville; his companion, Lena Vicknair of Coteau Holmes, and her sons, Troy Morvant and his wife, Desa, Mike Morvant and his wife, Nikki, all of Parks, and Pete Morvant and his wife, Cristen of Catahoula; his brothers, Rivers Verret, Jr. of Catahoula and Woodrow Verret of Abbeville; his sisters, Beverly Lasseigne of Parks, Carolyn Lasseigne and Veronica Bienvenue, both of St. Martinville; nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, eight step grandchildren, and one step great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Trellis Verret; his parents, Rivers and Armide Latiolais Verret; his sister, Jeanette Mier; infant twin grandsons, Jesse and Jordan Verret; and his daughter-in-law, Beth Fien Verret. The family requested that visiting hours be observed at Dion Hall in Catahoula from 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2005 and continue until time of service on Friday. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Pallbearers will be Errol, Ferril, Vernon, Laverne, and Shane Verret and Mervin Barras. Honorary pallbearers will be Troy, Mike and Pete Morvant, Rodney Verret, Sr., Rilius Verret and Huey Dugas, Jr. Pellerin Funeral Home (337)332-2111 is in charge of arrangements.
