Georgia served as an Administrative Assistant at Mount Carmel Academy and First Methodist Church, where she touched the lives of many with her kindness and dedication. Her career was not merely a job, but a calling that allowed her to contribute to her community and support others in their journeys.
However, her greatest pride and joy was her family. Georgia was the loving mother of six children, and they were the cornerstone of her life. She devoted herself to raising them in the Catholic Faith, instilling in them the values of love, compassion, and perseverance. Her legacy lives on through them, as they carry forward the high standards and values she exemplified.
Georgia had a deep appreciation for history and literature, often losing herself in the pages of a good book. She held a particular passion for astronomy, finding joy in stargazing and marveling at the wonders of the universe. Georgia also cherished her time spent in nature, reveling in the beauty of the National Parks and their breathtaking landscapes.
Her tenacity, unwavering faith, and insatiable curiosity shaped the lives of all who knew her. We are left with a void that cannot be filled, but we find comfort in remembering the many moments of laughter, learning, and love that she gifted us.
Survivors include Georgia’s six children, Jim Merryman (Dawn) of Lafayette, Claire Delaune (Richard) of New Iberia, Scott Merryman (Mary) of Alexandria, Kim Landry (Kevin) of New Iberia, Elizabeth Galloway (Ashley) of Jackson, MS, and Suzy Picard (Royd) of Broussard; 16 grandchildren, Joshua Brown, Reece Merryman, Haley Thevis, Caroline Merryman, Matt Delaune, Megan Faucheux, Elise Belden, Paul Merryman, Courtney Derise, Mallory Guillotte, Amelie Melancon, Ashley Delcambre, Adam Delcambre, Christopher Galloway, Taylor Picard, Kalyn Picard, and 19 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Catherine Kerwin McCarter.
The family would like to give special thanks to all of Ms. Georgia’s caregivers, especially Rita Touriac, Claudette Austin, LaShondra Smith, Summer Thomas, Janice Kinchen, and the staff of Hospice of Acadiana for their care and compassion.
As we say our goodbyes, we celebrate a remarkable life, a well-lived life - dedicated to family and faith.
