Gernice Bonin

Coteau - Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM , Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia, for Gernice Bonin, 85, who died on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 in New Iberia. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Deacon Theo Landry will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will be Friday from 4:30 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Friday. Visitation will continue Saturday from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM. Born on June 9, 1927, Mrs. Bonin had worked for 22 years at the Daily Iberian, and also for Dronet Auto Repairs for over 20 years. She enjoyed working in her yard, and was a member of the New Iberia VFW Post 1982 Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as Auxiliary Guard for many years. Survivors include her husband of 66 years of Leonce Bonin of Coteau; sons, Jim Bonin of Coteau, Ernest Bonin and wife Eileen of Coteau; brother, Luke Bonin and wife Hazel of New Iberia; sister, Una Bonin of New Iberia; three grandchildren, Trisha Piro and husband Kevin, Ross Bonin and wife April, Scott Bonin; five great grandchildren, Nikki Piro, Josh Piro, Collin Bonin, Cole Bonin, and Haili Bonin; and one great grandchild, Connor Hebert. She was preceded in death by her parents, Deluke and Elena Derouen Bonin; brothers, Harry Bonin, Ernest Bonin, Clifton Bonin, Alcee Bonin, Claude Bonin; sisters, Gessie Grivat, Irene Broussard, and Rita Mae Landry. Pallbearers will be Scott Bonin, Ross Bonin, Marty Gautreaux, Wayne Landry, Hayward Bonin, Sr., Josh Piro, and Trisha Piro. Honorary pallbearers include grandchildren and great grandchildren.
