New Iberia - Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM, Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia, for Gertrude Girouard ;Viator, 88, who died on Thursday, January 24, 2013. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Broussard. Deacon Theo Landry will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. ; Born on April 5, 1924, Mrs. Viator retired from Iberia Parish Schools as a cafeteria manager, after 21 years of service. She enjoyed gardening, singing, and playing cards. Mrs. Viator was a very special person who held her family together. She gave and never asked for anything in return. She will be deeply missed by family and friends. May she rest in peace.Survivors include her daughter, Aline Dunkin and husband Bruce of St. Martinville; brother, Ned Girouard and wife Joycelyn of Broussard; grandchildren, Sherri Thurman Bonin, Shelli Raye Thurman and companion Donald 'Bruce' Broussard, and Sheryl Thurman Viator all of New Iberia, Sheila Thurman Bernard of Austin, Texas, Shane Jay Thurman and wife Michell of Baton Rouge; step grandchildren, Greg Dunkin and Gail Dunkin Caliz of Breaux Bridge, Angie Dunkin of New Iberia, also Kim Moore and Chase Viator; 13 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Rodney James Viator; former husband, Lionel Viator; parents, Elie and Lucille Gatureaux Girouard; brothers, Alvin Girouard, Allen Girouard, Robert Westley Girouard, Dennis Girouard, John Girouard, Earless Girouard; sisters, Carmen Viator, Jeanette Bernard, Bernice Girouard. Pallbearers will be Shane Thurman, Brandon Fages, Timmy Delcambre, Jr., Bruce Dunkin, Greg Dunkin, and Hunter Viator.The family would like to give special thanks to Felicia Landry, Shelby Credeaur, and Cindy Luquette with Heart of Hospice for the help and kindness they gave to Mrs. Viator and to her family.
