St. Martinville - A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 8, 2021, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville for Gil Paul Cormier, 67, who passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 10:00 am Thursday until 10:30 am on Friday.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm on Thursday.
Rev. Michael Champagne will officiate at the Funeral Service. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Gil was born August 21, 1953 in Lafayette. He honorably served in the United States Army. He then worked as a Mud Engineer for Baker Hughes for 32 years. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. Gil was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting and fishing, taking his family on vacations and also played poker in his spare time. His family was his life, and he cherished his time spent with them. Gil will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Debbie Cormier; three sons, Jason Cormier, Brian Cormier, and Kent Cormier (Tobi Lynn); daughter, Lynzie Cormier; grandchildren, Haden Cormier, Kadee Cormier, Malayne Doucet, Kass Cormier and Corbin Cormier; mother, Doris Gardemal Cormier; sister, Sandra Scott (Bob); in-laws, Shirley Stelly (Dudley), Jane Zeringue, Raymond Delahoussaye (Joy), Luna Babineaux (Shelby) and Louana Sonnier (Lew); godchild, Sanders Castille (Shontelle); uncle, Harris Delahoussaye; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Guilman Cormier; and brother-in-law, Harris "Boog" Zeringue.
Pallbearers will be Jason Cormier, Brian Cormier, Haden Cormier, Corbin Cormier, Rodney Dore, and Sanders Castille.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kent Cormier, Kass Cormier and Harris Delahoussaye.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to his niece, Amy, whom which Gil called his “Angel” for the wonderful care and love given to him. Also, a special thanks to the staff at Hospice of Acadiana, the nurses and doctors at M.D. Anderson and the Cancer Center of Acadiana.
