Gilbert Joseph Melancon

Cecilia - A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, March 9, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia for Gilbert Joseph Melancon, 72, who passed away on Monday, March 6, 2023, at Our Lady of Lourdes.

A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Cecilia on Wednesday from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM and will continue on Thursday from 7:00 AM to 9:30 AM.

A rosary will be prayed by Deacon Ken Soignier at 7:00 PM on Wednesday.

Deacon Ken Soignier will officiate at the funeral service. Interment will follow at a later date.

Gilbert Joseph Melancon was born on November 1, 1950, in St. Martin Parish. He honorably served in the United States National Guard. Gilbert began his career in the oil field at a young age and retired with 50+ years of experience. His home was Cecilia, and you could always find "Pop," as everyone knew him, visiting Piggy Wiggly and T-Cochon daily. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, trail rides, and tending to all his beloved animals. Family meant the world to him, and he cherished his time spent with them, especially his dear grandchildren and great grandchild. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his daughters, Dawn Melancon Marks (Christopher) and Krystal Melancon (Ty); companion, Madeline Lagrange; grandchildren, Bailey Marks (Sara), Andre' Marks (Calea), Talon Harrington, and Aubrey Harrington; and one great-granddaughter, Parrish Marks.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gussie and Thelma Courville Melancon; and one sister, Gail Melancon.

Pallbearers will be Bailey Marks, Andre' Marks, Christopher Marks, Ty Melancon, Willie Melancon, and Paul Lagrange.

Honorary pallbearer will be Talon Harrington.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Our Lady of Lourdes ICU nursing team and Dr. David Allie for the excellent care and compassion given to Gilbert.
