Gilfert 'Gil' J. Simon Jr

Loreauville A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church in New Iberia for Gilfert J. Gil Simon, Jr., 75, who died Sunday, August 10, 2014, in Loreauville. Entombment will follow in the church mausoleum. Rev. Ed Degeyter will be the Celebrant. A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday from 4:30 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Wednesday. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 8:00 AM until 9:15 AM. A resident of Loreauville, Gil was born on October 6, 1938, and was a self-employed welder/fitter, having done work for Texaco, Cardinal Wireline, CF&S Tank, and other companies. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include his children, Mike Simon and wife Mona of New Iberia, Sheryl S. Bourque of Loreauville, Christine Simon of New Iberia, Nadine S. Boudoin and husband Justin of New Iberia; brother, Dave Simon and wife Beverly of Abbeville, Joseph Simon of Crowley; sister, Rose Mary Broussard of Kaplan; sister-in-law, Connie Simon of Crowley; 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren. Survivors also include adopted children and step children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilfert Joseph Simon, Sr., and Gurdia Byron Simon; brothers, Clarence Simon, Sr., Carol Simon, James Francis Simon; and a son, Russell Joseph Simon. Pallbearers will be Mike Simon, Nick Simon, Justin Boudoin, Logan Boudoin, Brock Bourque, and Jude Simon.
