New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm, on Monday, February 8, 2016, at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church in New Iberia, for Gloria LeCompte Huckabay, 92, who passed away on Friday, February 5, 2016, in Lafayette.
Entombment will follow in the church mausoleum.
A gathering of family and friends will be Monday from 8:30 AM until 1:15 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 10:00 AM Monday.
A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Huckabay was born on July 15, 1923 to Leonce and Pearl Broadhead LeCompte. She was employed with Patout Burns Firestone, in downtown New Iberia for 20 years, and Catholic High for several years. Mrs. Huckabay then worked for 20 years as a teacher for the Iberia Parish School Board. A devout Catholic, she enjoyed helping with community activities, especially at her church, Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church, and Catholic High. She also loved sports, especially her beloved LSU Tigers..
Survivors include her son, Pat Huckabay of New Iberia; brother, Malcolm LeCompte and wife Joyce of Delcambre; sister, Rose Marie "Putsy" Viator and husband Kenward of Baton Rouge; grandchildren, Jacob Huckabay and spouse Melinda, Kellie Herzog and spouse Matt; and 4 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Wilbur LeCompte, Herbie LeCompte, and Nolan LeCompte, sisters, Nodline LeCorgne, and Mildred Hebert.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Huckabay, Scotty Stevens, David Marcantel, Drew LeCompte, Stewart Shea, and Douglas Viator.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic High School, 1301 DeLaSalle Drive, New Iberia, LA 70560.
