St. Martinville- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 27, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Church in Coteau Holmes for Grace Bertrand, 83, who passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Landmark of Acadiana Nursing Home surrounded by her family. 

A visitation will take place at the funeral home in St. Martinville on Friday from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM and will continue on Saturday from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM.

A rosary will be prayed by Deacon Russell Hayes at 6:00 PM on Friday. 

Rev. Bill Melancon will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Kristen Bertrand and Stephanie Comeaux. Gift bearers will be Kiley Serrette, Kayley Bertrand and Bailey Bertrand.

Interment will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Coteau Holmes. 

Grace was born on May 21, 1940, in St. Martinville. She married Melvin Joseph Bertrand, Sr. in St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church on October 8, 1955, and together they shared in 68 years of marriage.  Grace was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She had a passion for cooking and every Friday night she would prepare delicious meals for her entire family.  Not only did Grace excel in the kitchen, but she also had several hobbies that brought her immense joy. She was an avid card player and enjoyed spending time playing Pokeno with her friends and loved ones.  One of Grace's favorite pastimes was visiting the casino. 

She is survived by her husband, Melvin Joseph Bertrand, Sr.; children, Mel (Lisa) Bertrand, Jr., Pam (Kendall) Romero, and Kenny (Lynn) Bertrand; sister, Mary Francis (Clifton) Borel; sister-in-law, Doris Granger; grandchildren, Cody (Danielle) Bertrand, Kiley (Marvin) Serrette, Kristen (John) Bertrand, Blake Bertrand, Kayley (Chase) Bertrand, Treavor (Randi) Romero, Bailey Bertrand and Logan (Cameron) Romero; and her great-grandchildren, Emeri Serrette, Brec Serrette, and Braxton Dore. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Pola Johnson Granger; brothers, Laoudoice Granger and Willie Granger; and her sisters, Mathilde Granger, Mae (Howard) Broussard, Mildred (Tommy) Olivier, and Theresa (Virgil) Blanchard. 

Pallbearers will be Cody Bertrand, Blake Bertrand, Treavor Romero, Logan Romero, Marvin Serrette, and Aaron Comeaux.
