Gussie Joseph Melancon

Cecilia - Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 10, 2007, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia for Gussie Joseph Melancon, 77, who died Thursday, February 8, 2007 at St. Agnes Nursing Home in Breaux Bridge. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Cecilia. Mr. Melancon was raised on the Atchafalaya River. ?He worked in the oilfield growing up and during the time of raising his family. ?He was an avid fisherman, where it was not only his job, but also a hobby. ?He later worked as a maintenance man at Diesi's Little Capitol in Henderson. ?Mr. Melancon was a member of the Bay Melancon Hunting Club. Survivors include his son, Gilbert Melancon; his daughter, Gail Lasseigne, both of Cecilia; his brother, Alton Melancon of Cecilia; his sister, Murley Patin of Baton Rouge; five grandchildren, Dawn Melancon Marks, Liz Broussard, Tonya Broussard, Abby Broussard, and Krystal Melancon Harrington; and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Courville Melancon; his parents, Wilbert ""Bay"" and Linda Stewart Melancon; his brothers, Dutile and Harris Melancon; and his sister, Mary Latiolais. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4:30 p.m. on Friday and continue until time of service on Saturday. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening. Pallbearers will be Willie Melancon, Chris Marks, Trent Harrington, John Romagosa, Rene Bordelon, and Mike Fitzgerald. Honorary pallbearers will be Gilbert Melancon, Joe Courville, Andrew Patin, Alton Melancon, Riley Hotard, and Ralph Calais. Pellerin Funeral Home of Cecilia is in charge of arrangements.
