Guyton H. Watkins, Sr.

New Iberia - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church in New Iberia for Guyton H. Watkins, Sr., 93, who passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2016, in New Iberia. Interment will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Rev. Scott Bullock will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will be at the First United Methodist Church, 119 Jefferson Street, in New Iberia on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. A native of Levita, Texas and a longtime resident of New Iberia, Mr. Watkins was born on July 1, 1923 to Karl Hampton Watkins and Verna Guyton Watkins. He was a partner in the law firm of Landry, Watkins, Repaske, and Breaux, and was a member of the Bar Association for 70 years. Survivors include his children, Guyton Hampton Watkins, Jr. and wife Catlin Donnelly, Mary Bayard and husband Alton E. Bayard, James Watkins and wife Elizabeth Pannell, Julie Pourciau and husband Wayne; 6 grandchildren, Andrew Bayard, David Bayard, James Bayard, Miles Watkins, Graham Watkins, Ellen Watkins; great grandson, Preston Bayard; and a brother, William Watkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Julie Louviere Watkins, and a sister, Lydia Watkins Parker. Pallbearers will be Andrew Bayard, James Bayard, David Bayard, Jacques Cousin, George Cousin, M.D., Alfred "Smitty" Landry, and Graham Watkins. The family wishes to give special thanks to Debbie Augustine, Gladys Dorsey, Ada Williams, and Ruby Levine for their care and assistance over the past several years.
