Broussard - Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Broussard, for Harold 'Ham' Jean Batiste, Sr., 74, who passed away on Friday, January 13, 2012 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Fr. Justin Arockiasamy, SVD, will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Carla Jean Batiste,Valerie Johnson, and Rhonda Green. Gift bearers will be Gabrielle, Jasmine and Arianna Jean Batiste. Interment will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery in Cade.
Mr. Jean Batiste had worked for the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Department for 30 years and previously as a truck driver for Roadway Express for 26 years. He was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver.
Survivors include two sons, Harold Jean Batiste, Jr. and his wife, Carla, and Garland Jean Batiste and Rhonda; five grandchildren, Gabrielle, Jasmine, Arianne, and Amirie Jean Batiste, and Joseph Lumpkin; two great grandchildren, Dontavian and Victoria Jean Batiste; five foster brothers, Leroy Thomas, Jeffery Williams, Dennis Benoit, Donald Tyler, and Billy Tyler; and four foster sisters, Sandra Jean Batiste, Daphana Anderson, Patricia Richard, and Betty Tyler.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Mae Mouton Jean Batiste; a daughter, Veronica Jean Batiste; his parents, Paul and Camilla Mouton Jean Batiste; one brother, Paul Louis Jean Batiste; and two sisters, Anna Marie Lucas and Inga Thomas.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Broussard, beginning at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, and continuing until 10:45 a.m. A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Marvin Jean Batiste, Dennis Benoit, Richard Anderson, Early Doucet, III, Lemelle Lee, and Orlando Lockette.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jeffery Williams, Allen Jean Batiste, Wonest Decuir, Ronald Chretien, Harris Mouton, Lester Mouton, Gerald Champ, Ronald Hypolite, Leroy Thomas, Donald Tyler, and Billy Tyler.
