New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 9, 2007, at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church, in New Iberia for Harold Lawrence Champagne, 77, who died on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 in New Iberia.
Interment will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum.
Rev. Jude Halphen will be the Celebrant. Readers will be granddaughters, Karly Haik and Ashley Freyou. Giftbearers include Laurie LaBauve and Beth Champagne, also granddaughters.
Born on August 23, 1929, Mr. Champagne is a native and lifelong resident of New Iberia. He is a retired contractor and retired owner and operator of Harold's Hotshot and Trucking Service. Mr. Champagne proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force. A member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Legionaires, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping,
Survivors include his wife Beverly Broussard Champagne of New Iberia; sons, Kenneth M. Champagne and wife Cynthia, Karl D. Champagne and wife Cindy, Dwight A. Champagne and wife Brenda all of New Iberia; daughters, Wendy LeBlanc and husband Alton of Youngsville, Terry Babineaux and husband Rodney of New Iberia, Susan Pinell and fiance Larry Hanks of Scott; brother, Andrew Champagne of New Iberia; sisters, Lou Thomas and Lucille Dugas both of New Iberia; 15 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 2 expected to arrive soon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Valcour and Alida Romero Champagne; a daughter, Connie Champagne; grandson, David Champagne; brothers, Outhwaite, Henry, Edwin, and James "Jim" Champagne; sisters, Ruby Champagne, Lavinia Fairley, Willa Delhomme, and Thelma Breaux; son-in-law, Harry John Pinell, III.
A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday, from 2:30 PM to 9:00 PM, at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. Visitation will continue Thursday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
A rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM Wednesday at Pellerin Funeral Home, in New Iberia.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are his grandsons; Troy LeBlanc, Chris LeBlanc, Chad Champagne, Kevin Champagne, Shawn Champagne, Seth Babineaux, Ben Champagne, and Brett Pinell.
Honorary pallbearers include Alton LeBlanc, Kenneth Champagne, Karl Champagne, Dwight Champagne, Rodney Babineaux, Andrew Champagne, Tommy Sapienza, Larry Hanks, Dallas DeRouen, Bob Johnson, Larry Verret, and Floyd Albert.
