New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 13, 2008, at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church, in New Iberia for Harold Joseph Dugas, 81, who died Sunday, February 10, 2008 in Lafayette.
Entombment will follow in the St. Joseph Mausoleum in Loreauville.
Born on February 13, 1926 in Loreauville, Mr. Dugas was a resident of New Iberia, and was a retired mechanical engineer, having worked for Shell Oil USA for 30 years, Shell Pecten in Syria for 2 ? years and Shell Pecten in Cameroon, Africa for 2 ? years. He was a 1944 graduate of Loreauville High School where he was Valedictorian of his class. He received his diploma while in the military. Mr. Dugas proudly served our country in the U.S. Army, during World War II, including Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Burch Berard Dugas of New Iberia; daughters, Christine Dugas Fournet and husband Michael E. Fournet of Lake Charles, Susan Dugas Dupuis and husband John Emery Dupuis of Slidell, Liz Dugas Landry and husband Jeffrey Lynn Landry of Loreauville; step children, Wanda Berard of St. Martinville, David Berard and wife Janice of Portage, Norma Higgins of Charenton, Marion Berard of St. Martinville, Tracy White and husband Bert of St. Martinville; brother, A.J. ""Poon"" Dugas and wife Beulah of Loreauville; sister-in-law, Annette Dugas of Loreauville; 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ide Joseph and Rose Bonin Dugas; his first wife, Emerante Gardemal Dugas; brother, Nolan J. Dugas.
Pallbearers will be Dylan Landry, John Dupuis, Geoffrey Fournet, David Dupuis, Malcolm Dugas, and Kenneth Dugas.
Honorary pallbearers include Mike Fournet, Jason Dupuis, Jeffrey Landry, and A.J. ""Poon"" Dugas.
A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday, from 12:30 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Tuesday. Visitation will continue Wednesday from 8:00 AM until 10:30 PM at the funeral home.
