New Iberia - Harriet Prosper LaBauve, a retired teacher who dedicated many years to the Iberia Parish School Board, has passed away at the age of 88. Born on January 20, 1935, in Loreauville, she lived a remarkable life filled with passion, kindness, and a deep love for education. She passed away on Friday, December 15, 2023.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm, on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Pellerin Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery. Rev. Keith Landry will officiate.
A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm, at Pellerin Funeral Home.
Harriet's journey in education began after her graduation from Loreauville High School. Armed with an unwavering commitment to make a difference in the lives of others, she joined the Iberia Parish School Board, where she served with distinction. As an educator, Harriet touched the lives of countless students, instilling in them not just knowledge but also the values of compassion and perseverance. Her dedication to shaping young minds earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues and students alike.
Beyond her professional career, Harriet's genuine desire to help others led her to volunteer in the Adult Literacy Program in New Iberia. Her selflessness and determination created opportunities for those who faced educational challenges. Through her tireless efforts and unwavering belief in the power of education, she became a beacon of hope for those seeking to improve their lives through literacy.
Apart from her teaching career and volunteer work, Harriet was an immensely talented artist. She found solace and joy in painting classes where she honed her skills alongside cherished friends who shared her passion. Her artwork was a reflection of her vibrant spirit and creative soul, capturing moments of beauty that will forever inspire those who behold them.
In addition to her artistic endeavors, Harriet had several hobbies and interests that brought joy into her life. She was known for hosting special family events, diligently planning the perfect menu while ensuring everyone felt loved and appreciated. The laughter and warmth that radiated from these gatherings were a testament to Harriet's nurturing nature.
When not immersed in painting or hosting family celebrations, Harriet delighted in spending time with her loved ones, especially her adoring grandchildren. She showered them with unconditional love and always had a delicious treat ready to share. Her presence was a source of comfort, guidance, and endless affection.
Survivors include her children, Lisa LaBauve Dugas, Sonya LaBauve Tedesco (Victor Ted Tedesco, IV), Wayne LaBauve (Ann Galendez LaBauve), and Christy LaBauve Boudreaux; grandchildren, Jason Dugas (Kelli), Courtney Dugas Fruge’ ((Jacques), Alexandra Tedesco (Abby), Victor Tedesco, V, Desmond LaBauve, Brennan LaBauve, Emma Boudreaux, and Abby Boudreaux; great grandson, Jacques “Jack” Fruge’, IV; brother, Alvin Prosper (Bea), and a sister, Karen Prosper Breaux.
Mrs. LaBauve was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Willis “Chick” LaBauve; parents, Lawrence and Emma Prince Prosper; and a brother, Clarence “Ben” Prosper.
While her physical presence may be missed by those who knew her best, her legacy will live on forever in the hearts and minds of all who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her.
